Ken is a 3rd generation butcher. His grandfather and father taught him this trade starting at age 14 in the family owned meat market. Van’s Meat Market was located in Thibodaux, Louisiana and owned by Ken’s grandfather, Alvin “Van” Blanchard. After Mr. Van’s passing, Ken’s father, Alvin Blanchard Jr., opened his own wild game processing business. When first opening the wild game business, things were slow. Ken worked at different grocery stores to make ends meet, such as Walmart, L&N, & Delchamps. He worked with his father in the deer shop on his days off.

When the large grocery companies decided to do away with on-site butchers, Ken followed in his dad’s footsteps. While Mr. Alvin’s shop was located in Thibodaux, Ken opened his own facility in Raceland. In 1999, Ken’s Deer Butcher Shop opened its doors.

20+ years later, Ken’s daughter works alongside him. Ashley is the person you will likely come into contact with at our shop. Ken has taught her every job there is in the business. Together the two of them (with the help of staff members) process nearly 2,500 deer a year.
